Clinical Proteomics
We support translational research and the development of:
-
Mass spectrometry-assisted diagnostics (identification and validation of disease-specific biomarkers)
-
Therapeutic drugs (drug target identification, mode-of-action analyses, drug response monitoring, etc.)
More information
Understanding biological systems and their alteration during disease is the essential basis for allowing disease diagnosis, prognosis and prediction. Genomic analyses (genome sequencing, PCR) are established tools for evaluating e. g. the genetic predisposition for developing certain diseases. However, genomics does not provide information about protein expression or altered protein turnover. Proteomics provides more information about protein turnover, post-translational modifications, interactions, composition and structure. Clinical proteomics aims at defining biomarker panels for monitoring a set of proteins rather than individual biomarkers to provide a more comprehensive image of human physiology. These biomarker panels have great potential for diagnostics and treatment. Mass spectrometry facilitates the detection of several hundreds of proteins in a single measurement, making it an essential tool for studying protein expression in an organism. Our clinical proteomics service provides individual workflows and bioinformatics analyses for biomarker discovery, verification and validation.
